Honey, Have You Squeezed the Dachshund?

A Guide for Dachshund Owners Who Are Terrified of IVDD

by Kristin Leydig Bryant and Adam Christman, DVM, MBA

Approximately one in five dachshunds will experience some level of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) during their lifetime, and other long-bodied breeds get IVDD too. But IVDD does not have to mean a death sentence. If you know how to manage the condition, your IVDD dog can still have a high quality of life, doing all the doggy things that dogs do.

With humor and kindness, Kristin Leydig Bryant and Dr. Adam Christman walk you through caring for dogs with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). Topics include:

  • How to recognize the earliest signs of this inherited condition
  • Ways to minimize the risk of a painful or paralyzing disc rupture
  • Advice on choosing a treatment path and providing follow-up care

Honey, Have You Squeezed the Dachshund? shares Kristin’s many years of experience in home care as a foster mom for DREAM Dachshund Rescue and Dr. Christman’s knowledge as a practicing veterinarian and IVDD dog dad. Their combined perspective and practical strategies will give you confidence in talking with your own veterinarian and taking care of your dog during treatment and recovery.

This book is a MUST HAVE for all pet owners, not just Dachshunds. It’s an excellent ready a provides us pet owners with quick and easy information to be more PROACTIVE than REACTIVE on dogs with disc disease. I’m having my veterinarian purchase copies for her practice to keep them on hand. Such a great book! Thank you to Kristin and Dr. Christman! This needs to be a New York Times Best Seller!

What a great easy read for a worried pet parent like me. Kristin and Dr. Christman explain disc disease in a simplified way and make it less “scary” of a condition to recognize. It doesn’t have to be a death sentence and NOW it REALLY doesn’t have to be. This book saves lives!!

This is an excellent resource for anyone who has Dachshunds in their life, in ANY capacity. If you know someone who is looking to add a Dachshund (or any IVDD prone breed of dog) to their family, and isn’t familiar with IVDD….PLEASE consider gifting them with a copy. Gift two to your vet’s office. One for staff, and one for them to have on hand should they have a client who they feel can benefit from the content.

Thank you Kristin Leydig Bryant and Adam Christman for this book of knowledge and empowerment!!

I just bought this book today from Dr. Christman and literally just got done reading the entire masterpiece! I chuckled but highlighted sooooo many fantastic things I never knew about disabled dogs. As a Corgi owner, I can relate to those dogs with back prone injuries. This is a PERFECT Christmas present to any pet lover who simply just loves dogs and wants to learn how to be a better pet parent! Wow! Kudos to Kristen and Dr. Christman! This NEEDS to be in your hands and in every bookstore!
